Audition Cost - $15 per person
This year for auditions, we will use a song from the Honor Choir repertoire called “Sehnsucht”, a German Partsong by Johannes Brahms. Students will learn their voice part from a portion of the song and then record it with other parts and the accompaniment on Opus and complete one sight-reading example.
Important sight reading information:
Time signature will be 4/4 time.
● The following major keys may be utilized (up to 3 sharps or Flats): A, Bb, D, Eb, F, G
○ The key of C major will not be used.
○ Sopranos/Tenors will sight-read in Eb, F, or G
○ Altos/Basses will sight-read in A, Bb, or D
● Examples should start and end on the tonic (Do).
● Vocal range is from Ti (below) to La (above) the starting tonic pitch.
● Skips of up to a Perfect Fifth may be used.
○ There will be three skips outside of the tonic triad.
● Note rhythms will include half, quarter, dotted quarter and eighth notes.
● Eighth notes may be used in pairs or groups consecutively up to a total of four eighth
notes in a row.
○ Consecutive eighth notes will only move in stepwise motion, not skips.
● Dotted quarter notes must be followed by an eighth note.
● Rests - Only quarter rests will be used and will occur at least once in each example.
● Dynamics will not be indicated on the sight reading.
